Most "PC optimizers" make money on fear: scary red numbers, fake "500 errors found", and tweaks that sound powerful but quietly do nothing (or actively hurt your machine). BRUTAL Optimizer is built on the opposite bet. We tell you the truth other optimizers won't, even when the truth is less exciting. This article lays out the promises behind that, and the specific myths we have refused to ship.
If we show you a number, it's a real measurement. If we say a tweak is safe, we've gated it behind a real check. If something can't be undone, we tell you before you click. And there are no ads in any tier — the free tier is the entire toolbox minus the Pro automation and deep-tuning, not a crippled demo nagging you to upgrade.
Open Drive Health and you'll find a panel called "SSD Health & Truth". It isn't marketing — it lists the popular "optimizations" we deliberately don't do, because they're useless or harmful on modern flash storage:
Our Disk Cleaner only touches an allow-list of genuinely reclaimable junk (temp files, caches, crash dumps, the Recycle Bin). It will never do the dangerous party tricks other cleaners brag about, because they range from pointless to destructive:

It reads your drive's actual free space before and after the clean and reports the verified difference as the headline number. If a file was locked and couldn't be removed, the freed total reflects that — no rounding up to look impressive. Honest measurement is the whole point.
The on-screen FPS counter shows a real display present rate, and only while a game or emulator is actually running — otherwise it shows a dash and "No game" rather than inventing a number. The dashboard's Performance Score is built from CPU, GPU and RAM readiness; we deliberately keep render-rate FPS out of it, because mixing a frame rate into a readiness score would just inflate it. When we don't have data, we say so.
If a tweak in BRUTAL Optimizer feels suspiciously modest, that's by design — we'd rather under-promise a 2% gain we can stand behind than fake a 200% one. Where a change is irreversible (cleaning junk, defragging an HDD), you'll get a confirmation first. Where it's reversible, you'll find an undo button.
Why won't the app let me defragment my SSD?
Because defragmenting flash storage does nothing useful — it just burns write cycles and fights the drive's wear-leveling. The correct maintenance for an SSD is TRIM/ReTrim, which the Optimize button runs automatically. Only confirmed spinning hard drives are ever defragmented. See the Drive Health article for details.
Are there ads or a paywalled "scare" upsell?
No. There are no ads in any tier. The free tier is the full toolbox minus the Pro automation and deep-tuning modules. We don't show fake error counts to pressure you into buying.
The freed-space number looks smaller than other cleaners report. Is something wrong?
No — it's more honest. We report the verified change in your drive's actual free space, not an inflated estimate. Other tools often pad the number by counting things that don't free disk space at all (like a RAM flush).
How do I see the list of myths inside the app?
Open the Drive Health page and look for the "SSD Health & Truth" panel. It lists each myth and a short explanation of why we refuse to ship it.
