Glossary: optimizer terms explained

BRUTAL's screens and logs use a handful of Windows and gaming terms. Here is what each one means in plain English, and why BRUTAL touches it. Where a term has its own deeper article, the link takes you there.

The terms

TRIM is the one to remember if you have an SSD: the right maintenance for flash is TRIM, not defragmentation. BRUTAL never defragments an SSD — only confirmed spinning hard drives get defragmented.

Why this matters

Most of these terms describe priority — telling Windows that your game's CPU, network, and disk work should come before background noise. None of them read game memory, inject code, or hook DirectX, which is why BRUTAL stays anti-cheat-safe. And every change a module makes is reversible. See what is reversible and anti-cheat safety.

FAQ

Is DSCP 46 a guaranteed speed boost?

No. DSCP 46 (EF) tags your game's packets as high-priority on your local network and through hardware that honors the marking; it does not change anything past your router on the public internet. It reduces local contention, not distance or your ISP's routing.

Why does BRUTAL never defragment my SSD?

Defragmentation is for spinning hard drives. The correct maintenance for an SSD is TRIM, which tells the drive which blocks are free. BRUTAL only defragments confirmed hard drives and uses TRIM for flash. See the Drive Health article.
